LESSON 6 • PROVING THE OUTLINE

The Mental Proof Acid Test

Test your outline like a master writer! Learn how to combine each main idea with your title to verify that all topics truly belong.

🔎 The Core Outlining Rule

If an outline is set up properly, each main idea can be used together with the title to make a complete, sensible sentence. (You may add a few connecting words.)

Animal Homes
   I. Caves
  II. Underground
 III. Underwater
 IV. Trees
Say to yourself:
• “Animal homes can be in caves.” (Makes sense!)
• “Animal homes can be underground.” (Makes sense!)
• “Animal homes can be underwater.” (Makes sense!)
• “Animal homes can be in trees.” (Makes sense!)
